What Are Dental Implants?

Dental Implants are one of the most effective ways to replace missing or damaged teeth. Whether you’ve lost just a few teeth or require a complete arch of teeth, dental implants offer a secure, comfortable and long-lasting solution. Made out of tiny, incredibly sturdy and durable titanium screws, they are skillfully placed into your jawbone, serving as a sturdy foundation for a dental crown, bridge, or dentures. An abutment is then placed on the implant, to which your new prosthetic tooth is connected.

Dental Implants are a great solution that effectively mimics the look and function of your natural teeth, making it possible for you to enjoy your favourite food, speak, and smile confidently. If you’ve had enough of hiding your smile and are interested in this remarkable treatment, feel free to get in touch with our friendly team to see if it's a suitable option for you.

Types of Dental Implants We Offer

We offer several implant restorations to meet your unique dental needs

Single Implants

Offering a natural-looking, durable tooth replacement solution, single implants are typically used to replace a single tooth or a few missing teeth. Our experienced dentists use advanced technology to place the implant directly into your jaw, providing a secure and long-lasting replacement.

Implant Bridge

An implant bridge is a dental restoration option that replaces multiple missing teeth. The bridge (your prosthetic teeth) is anchored to two or more strategically placed implants, spanning the gap left by your missing teeth. An implant bridge can restore your smile, improve your chewing function and enhance your overall oral health.

FAQS

With proper care and maintenance, Dental Implants can last from 10 to 30 years or more. Our experienced dentists will provide you with the necessary aftercare instructions to maintain your dental implants.

Dental Implants are performed by our highly skilled and experienced dentists at Warrnambool Smile Dental who have specialised training in implant dentistry, ensuring your treatment is safe and effective. Choosing the right dentist to restore your smile is crucial to ensure best results, and at Warrnambool Smile Dental, we can guarantee you’ll receive the best possible dental care.

Dental Implants are not removable like dentures, making them more secure and comfortable for everyday functioning. The prosthetic teeth attached to the implants such as crowns and bridges may be removable for cleaning or replacement.

Zirconia dental implants, known for their durability and biocompatibility, can last a very long time. While the lifespan of any dental implant can vary depending on factors like oral hygiene, overall health, and habits, zirconia implants are designed to be long-lasting. On average, zirconia implants can last 10 years or more. With proper care, regular dental check-ups, and a healthy lifestyle, it’s not uncommon for zirconia implants to last even longer.

Zirconia and titanium dental implants each have their advantages. Zirconia implants offer a natural appearance and biocompatibility, while titanium implants have a well-established history of osseointegration and durability. The choice depends on factors like aesthetic preferences, bone health, and personal comfort.

Some alternatives to Dental Implants are dental bridges and dentures. These are also effective options for restoring your teeth, improving functionality and giving you that stunning smile you’ve always dreamed of. We generally recommend these alternatives in cases of poor oral health or poor bone density.

No, our highly skilled dentists strive to ensure a comfortable and stress-free experience from beginning to end. At Warrnambool Smile Dental, Dr Joseph has extensive training and experience in the safe placement of implants under local anaesthetic. This means that you will be awake and in the dental chair where proper technique will ensure complete numbness throughout the procedure, feeling absolutely no pain.

The number of dental implants you need will depend on the number of teeth you are missing. This can be determined by our experienced dentists. We will do a comprehensive examination of your teeth and assess your unique condition, evaluating the best solution for you.

If you’re noticing that your dental implant feels a bit loose, don’t worry. Just get in touch with us and we’ll figure out what’s going on. It could be a small thing like an infection or needing a minor adjustment. Whatever the case, we will guide you on the best steps to make sure your implant stays comfortable and secure.

Taking care of dental implants is much like looking after your natural teeth. Make sure to brush and floss regularly, and don’t forget the importance of regular checkups for professional cleanings every 6 months. These steps are vital to keep your implants healthy and ensure they last for years to come.

A sufficient amount of healthy jawbone is usually required for successful implant placement. We will evaluate your oral health to determine if you meet this criteria, but we also offer bone grafting procedures if not.

Not at all! Dental implants and the attached restorations are designed to closely resemble natural teeth, making them virtually indistinguishable from your surrounding natural teeth.
