Our principal dentist, Dr Joseph, is a general dentist with passion in orthodontics (braces) and aims to provide beautiful faces, not just straight teeth. He has undertaken years of part-time post-graduate study in orthodontics from both Australian and international leaders in the field of orthodontics. Dr. Joseph is a member of the International Association for Orthodontics, the largest orthodontics association in the world. Having studied under multiple mentors, he uses various up-to-date techniques and bracket systems that he can tailor according to the patients’ individual conditions. Dr Joseph doesn’t routinely extract teeth before putting on braces, as our philosophy at Warrnambool Smile Dental is to only extract teeth if it improves facial aesthetics and not because of crowding or to correct jaw relationship. Dental crowding can typically be resolved by expanding the jaws to create more space to fit the adult teeth. However, in extreme cases such as abnormally large teeth (macrodontia) or where aesthetics will be improved, extractions may still be required. The traditional approach to orthodontics is focused on straightening teeth with less regard to facial profile and harmony. However, this often requires pulling out several healthy teeth to create enough space just to straighten the others. This may also mean straightening teeth without regard for the facial appearance, facial profile and general health of the patient. Our goal is to make patients healthy and create beautiful faces and smiles, not just straightening their teeth!
